HOMOGRAPHES

Homographs are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings and are often pronounced differently as well.

Examples:

Bear                 -               A kind of animal
Bear                 -               Tolerate
Lead                -               Guide, show someone the way, escort, usher
Lead                -               A kind of metal
Close               -               To shut, to lock
Close               -               Near, next to, adjacent
Wind               -               Breeze, cool air
Wind               -               Twist or curve, wrap or encircle
Absent             -               Missing, not present
Absent             -               To make oneself missing
Affect             -               To influence
Affect             -               Impact, influence
Attribute         -               A character or quality of a thing
Attribute         -               To associate ownership or authorship of something to someone
Bass                 -               A low-pitched sound or tone
Bass                 -               A kind of fish
Bow                -               A knot with two loops and loose ends, a weapon for shooting arrows
Bow                -               Stoop, to bend or curve downward
Desert              -               Abandon, give up, relinquish
Desert              -               Barren land, wasteland
Record            -               To store sound, music etc., on tape or on a disk
Record            -               Information, data, documentation
Wound            -               An injury, lesion
Wound            -               To hurt or injure
Too                  -               Excessively, extremely, overly
Too                  -               Also, in addition, besides
